What does it contain?
Hepatosyl capsules contain S-Adenosylmethionine, along with Vitamin E, Vitamin K, Magnesium Stearate and Alfalfa powder.
How does it work?
The main ingredient is S-Adenosylmethionine, often abreviated to SAMe. This is a pre-cursor to the compound glutathione, which has a number of important functions in the liver. It has been shown that 45% of dogs and cats with liver problems have low levels of glutathione in the liver. Glutathione helps to maintain the health of hepatocytes (liver cells). It is a powerful antioxidant and is also used by the liver in a variety of detoxification reactions which are an important part of liver function. Unfortunately it is not useful to provide glutathione in the diet because it is not effectively absorbed, and supplements of this type do not boost blood or cell levels of glutathione. However S-Adenosylmethionine is well absorbed and is readily used by the liver to manufacture glutathione within the liver cells. Hence levels of glutathione in the blood and the liver cells are found to increase if Hepatosyl is provided as a nutritional supplement.
When to use Hepatosyl
Hepatosyl is recommended to
be used under the direction of your veterinary surgeon. It can be
helpful for any condition where there has been damage to the liver
through disease or injury. It is also sometimes given for a few days
before and after a general anaesthetic, or after a possible case of
poisoning.
What is Hepatosyl Plus?
Hepatosyl Plus contains the same trusted ingredients as the
original product but now also includes Silybin. Silybin is the most
active isomer of Silybum marianum (milk thistle) which acts as
an antioxidant by increasing cellular superoxide dismutase. It joins
S-adenosylmethionine (SAMe) and Vitamin E to create a triple
antioxidant approach to liver support, helping to neutralise free
radicals within the liver. Hepatosyl Plus is still also the only liver
supplement to contain Vitamin K, which is needed by the liver for the
production of clotting factors II, VII, IX and X, making it ideally
suited for pre- and post-anaesthetic liver support.
Hepatosyl Plus is available in 50mg, 100mg and 200mg sprinkle capsules.
For anaesthetic support, Hepatosyl Plus should be administered for one
week prior to and following anaesthesia. For long-term use, the
capsules should be given once daily for 2-3 months and then reduced to
every other day for ongoing maintenance.
Where to buy Hepatosyl
